Sydvaranger Gruve AS was established in 2007 to rehabilitate the mining, railroad and manufacturing plants and start production of high-grade iron ore concentrate.
The project is fully funded and rehabilitation work is in progress according to plan with the aim of production from the latter half of 2009.
Sydvaranger Gruve AS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Norwegian company Northern Iron Ltd., Which is listed in Australia and has Tschudi Shipping as majority owner.
